The Role Of Women In Christianity Many people also think that the Christian Church is sexist and does not treat men and women equally. Paul said that: Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to enquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Now I want you to realise that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonours his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head†¦show more content†¦It is only recently that some churches have allowed women to become ministers or priests (including the Church of England in 1994) but others, such as the Roman Catholic Church, will still not allow this.: Christianity is against all forms of discrimination. Jesus treated all people equally and with respect. Jesus had a different attitude to women from that of the traditional Jews. Jesus had women followers. He spoke to them and was willing to share religious ideas with them. Luke 10:38 - 42 tells of Jesus visit to sisters, Martha and Mary. Mary wants to listen to his teaching but Martha was upset because she wasnt helping with the work. Jesus said Mary should be allowed to listen to him and learn from him. This does not mean that the Church has not been guilty of discrimination both in the past and present. Some churches do not allow women priests and have been accused of prejudice. Is The Bible Relevant In Modern Living? From a religious point of view the bible is relevant to modern living because it is their way of life. They follow all the teachings and everything that is in it. Christians see the bible as a sacred writing, all Christians interpret in different ways. However they all believe that it is sacred and they all use it in their faith. Non Christians dont use the bible much at all. However even in this day and age the bible can still be relevant.
